Beloit, OH -- The West Branch softball team has secured the No. 16 seed in the OHSAA Northeast 2 Sectional/District tournament in Division IV. The Warriors will begin their postseason journey on Thursday, May 14, traveling to Canal Fulton to play the 14th-seeded Northwest Indians.

Should the Warriors advance past their sectional opener, they would play the winner of Laurel and Cleveland St. Martin de Porres on Tuesday, May 19.

In the other first-round game, No. 25 seed Cleveland St. Martin de Porres will face 11 seed Laurel. The winner of that game will advance to play West Branch. The site of that matchup will depend on the result. West Branch would host if St. Martin de Porres advances, but would travel to Shaker Hts if Laurel wins.

If West Branch advances through the bracket, a potential district championship matchup could feature top-seeded Lakeview, a strong opponent that defeated the Warriors 11-1 in late April and enters the tournament as one of the higher seeds in the field.

Despite their record, West Branch is a team that is absolutely capable of competing with and beating quality opponents in the tournament. The Warriors have shown at times this season that they can play at a high level on both sides of the ball, and when they are executing well, they are a tough matchup for anyone in the bracket. If they put everything together, they have the potential to make a real run in postseason play.
