Beloit, OH -- Yesterday, the West Branch softball team welcomed the Salem Quakers to Sis Woods Field looking to pick up an EBC win and a rivalry victory. The bats came alive early and never slowed down as the Warriors piled up 16 total hits on their way to a dominant 12-1 mercy rule win.
West Branch struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Zoe Metzger grounded out to bring in a run, followed by Allie Brammer blasting an inside-the-park home run that scored two more.
The Warriors kept building in the third, adding three more runs thanks to RBI singles from Layla Carreon and Elly Biskup to stretch the lead even further. Ellie Tucker earned the win in the circle, going five strong innings while allowing just three hits and one unearned run. She struck out three and didn't issue a walk. Salem's #6 took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits over three innings.
Offensively, West Branch was locked in from top to bottom. The Warriors finished with 16 hits, led by Layla Carreon who drove in three runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Biskup and Sara Schmidt each collected three hits, while Tucker and Brammer also turned in multi-hit performances.
What's Next: The West Branch softball team is back in action today at Carrollton, looking to pick up another EBC victory. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
