The WBXC HS Boys and Girls kicked off their season at the Salem Early Bird last Saturday. The high school teams ran their 5K races (3.1 miles) in fine fashion! Every single runner who raced the Bird last year started this season in a better spot than last year. On average, the runners beat those times by a whopping 1:48!Â
For the boys,Â
finishing in the top 20% of 116 boys wasÂ
junior Kyle Ormiston–20th place (18:18).
Finishing in the top 30% of 116 boys was
freshman Logan Williams---34th place (19:16).
Also, junior TJ Greenfield (19:32) and sophomore Jake Blinn (21:24) each had stellar races out of the gate, beating their lifetime PR's (personal records) by 5 seconds and 56 seconds, respectively!
For the girls,Â
finishing in the top 25% of 82 girls was
freshman Rachel Teague--19th place (23:54).
Also, sophomore Carter Fritz (26:25) had a super first race, nearly beating her lifetime PR of 26:20!
Overall, both teams had a tremendous start to the season--in their running AND in supporting/guiding the middle school teams who were also at the Salem Early Bird. The HS teams are looking forward to competing this Saturday, 8/30 at Marlington! Excellent effort, all WBXC HS runners!

The WBXC MS Girls and Boys kicked off their season alongside their HS counterparts at the Salem Early Bird Saturday running their 2-mile race. Like their older teammates, every single veteran MS runner started this season in a better spot than last year. On average, the runners beat those times by a hefty 1:17! Â
For the girls,Â
finishing in the top 5% of 99 girls and earning a medal in her very first cross country race was
8th grader Tenley Stitle--5th place (13:15).
Finishing in the top 20% of 99 girls were
8th grader Izzy Cantwell–17th place (14:24) and
8th grader Ellie Bickle--20th place (14:51).
For the boys,Â
finishing in the top 25% of 112 boys was
7th grader Wyatt Turman--25th place (13:32).
Finishing in the top 30% of 112 boys in his first cross country race was
8th grader Jace Bowlin--30th place (13:39).
Also, 8th grader Matthew Edwards had a terrific first race of the season, as he beat his lifetime PR (personal record) by 26 seconds with a time of 15:11!
Overall, the MS Girls and Boys teams had an excellent start to their seasons--in their running AND in supporting the high school teams who were also at the Salem Early Bird! They are looking forward to competing this Saturday, 8/30 at Marlington! Congratulations, all WBXC MS runners!
