Cross Country Teams Compete at Legends Meet

The WBXC High School Boys and Girls competed at the Legends Meet at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds on Saturday, 10/4. Though the 3.1-mile course was flatter than previous terrain, the runners were challenged by a very crowded field of runners as they navigated numerous turns along the looping route in the midday heat!

Finishing in the top 10% of a whopping 409 boys was junior Kyle Ormiston (17:45)--39th place!

Finishing in the top 18% of 409 boys was junior TJ Greenfield (18:22)--73rd place. With this time, Greenfield set a lifetime PR (personal record)!

Finishing in the top 26% of 409 boys was freshman Logan Williams (18:51)--105th place!

Sophomore Jake Blinn (20:01) had a terrific day on the course, setting a lifetime PR by 56 seconds! Also posting an improved time at Legends was senior John Biggs (20:40), as he set a season PR!

The HS boys had their best finish of the season as a team thus far, finishing 19th of 50 teams! This was a testament to their individual improvement all-around!

Because of time constraints due to Homecoming, the HS girls competed in the combined male/female open race. Finishing first of the 72 girls in the race and earning a backpack was freshman Rachel Teague (22:20)--1st place!

Finishing in the top 10% of 72 girls and earning a backpack was freshman Kelly Ewing (23:42)--7th place!

Freshman Grace Boyle (24:39) also had a super day on the course, setting a lifetime PR!

Congratulations, all WBXC High School Boys and Girls!

The teams will compete next on Saturday, 10/11 at the EBC Championships at Marlington High School!

The WBXC Middle School Girls and Boys also competed at the Legends Meet at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds on Saturday, 10/4 on the 2-mile course.

Stitle School RecordFinishing in the top 7% of 242 girls and earning a backpack was 8th grader Tenley Stitle--17th place (12:56)!!! With this time, Stitle set a lifetime PR (personal record)! She also finished a convincing 13 seconds ahead of the ONE girl who narrowly beat her at the Mahoning County Championships! An even more impressive detail, however, is the fact that with her fantastic time of 12:56, Stitle broke the WBXC MS Girls' 2-Mile Record of 13:00 held by Rachel Teague! Congratulations, Tenley!!

Finishing in the top 19% of 242 girls was  8th grader Izzy Cantwell (13:39)--45th place! With this time, Cantwell set a lifetime PR!

Finishing in the top 26% of 242 girls was 8th grader Ellie Bickle (14:05)--63rd place! Like her teammates, Bickle also set a lifetime PR!

At Legends, the WBXC MS girls had another excellent  performance as a team. Although they tied Tallmadge (using the points from the top-5 runners), WB's sixth runner, 7th grader Violet Benner, beat Tallmadge's sixth runner head to head, allowing WB to earn 9th place (and Tallmadge finished 10th) out of 28 teams!

On the boys' side, finishing in the top 30% of 276 boys was  7th grader Wyatt Turman (13:00)--84th place. With this time, Turman set a lifetime PR!

Finishing in the top 34% of 276 boys was 8th grader Jace Bowlin (13:07)--94th place. Like Turman, Bowlin also set a lifetime PR!

Adding to a great day on the course, 7th graders Jax DeWitt (15:14), Liam Wilson (15:35), and Greyson Ewing (15:40) ALL posted lifetime PR's!

Congratulations, all WBXC Middle School Girls and Boys!

The teams will compete in their final regular-season meet on Saturday, 10/11 at the EBC Championships at Marlington High School.

Last Saturday, 19 members of the Little Warriors Distance Squad competed at the Legends Meet just like their WBXC pals! That is a testament not only to the kids' eagerness to run, but also to their parents' commitment to drive close to an hour each way for it to happen!

Not only did our Little Warriors show up to run, they did an AWESOME job! Some even took home a medal (*) which were given to the top 10 boys and top 10 girls in each race. It was a great way to end a wonderful season of exercising, improving, and having fun!!

Those participating in the half-mile race for 3rd graders and under included:

3rd grade: Jared Brown, Luka Herron*(3rd place-boys), Julia Teague*(3rd place-girls), and Maddie Turman.

Those participating in the one-mile race for 4th-6th graders included:

4th grade: Zeb Booth, Lara Coffee, Emma Jones, Lucy Pidgeon, Jo Robinson, and Braden Spencer.

5th grade:  Ellie Cosma, Alex Herron, Logan Rakestraw, Annie Williams*(8th place-girls), and Carson Yost.

6th grade: Kason Coffee, Brielle Spencer, Sawyer Vavrock*(3rd place-boys), and Zen Woolf.

The West Branch Little Warriors had enough runners to compete in the combined boys/girls TEAM competition for the one-mile race, and they finished 3rd of 9 teams! The top-5 runners (scorers) for WB included:

Sawyer Vavrock (6:07), Alex Herron (6:35), Zen Woolf (6:42), Annie Williams (6:59), and Braden Spencer (7:33). These times are absolutely outstanding for 4th-6th graders!

Congratulations to ALL of our Little Warriors Distance Squad runners who ran at Legends! Mrs. Coffee, Mrs. Robinson, and I (Coach Cederbloom) are so proud of you!
