Alliance, OH -- West Branch dropped a 15-11 game to Marlington
earlier today in a back-and-forth night at the plate. The Warriors got on the board early when Sara Schmidt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run. They stayed aggressive throughout and kept finding ways to answer.
West Branch tied the game in the third behind a sacrifice fly from Layla Carreon and a double from Zoey Carreon, then took a 6-5 lead in the fourth on another sacrifice fly from Schmidt. Marlington answered right back, putting together a big middle stretch at the plate and taking advantage of a few opportunities to regain the lead. They added insurance late to hold off the Warriors' push.
Layla Carreon helped keep West Branch in it with a solo home run in the sixth, and the offense continued to battle until the end. Ellie Tucker led the way, going 3-for-3 with a triple, double, and single. Schmidt, Layla Carreon, and Zoey Carreon each drove in two runs, while Elly Biskup added a pair of hits.
West Branch was active on the bases with seven steals and also turned two double plays defensively.
What's Next: The Warriors are back on the field Friday at Hubbard, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
