The West Branch softball team picked up a strong 11–2 road win over Alliance on Tuesday at Alliance High School, pulling away late behind a big fourth inning and a complete-game performance in the circle.Alliance struck first in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 2–1 lead after a base hit down the left field line and a run that came across on a passed ball.
However, West Branch responded quickly and then took control in the fourth, breaking the game open with a five-run inning on three hits. The big moment came off the bat of Zoe Metzger, who delivered a two-run single to spark the rally and put West Branch in front for good.The Warriors kept the momentum rolling in the fifth when Ellie Tucker launched a solo home run to left field. Sara Schmidt later added to the lead after tagging up, extending the cushion even further.
Tucker was dominant in the circle, going the distance with seven innings pitched. She allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out seven and walking two to earn the win.
At the plate, Schmidt led the offense, driving in three runs while finishing 2-for-4. Tucker also contributed offensively, reaching base twice on walks, as West Branch drew five walks as a team. Defensively, West Branch was sharp all night, playing clean, error-free softball.
What's Next: The West Branch softball team will be back in action Thursday on the road at Carrollton with a 5 p.m. start.
