Warren, OH -- West Branch defeated Howland 12-4 on Thursday at Howland High School, powered by a 17-hit offensive showcase and strong pitching from
Ellie Tucker,
Zoey Carreon, and
Klary McKay.
The Warriors wasted no time, jumping to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Ellie Tucker ignited the offense with an inside-the-park home run, followed by productive at-bats from Klary McKay (double), Addi Craven (single), and Zoe Metzger (groundout) to build a 4-0 advantage.
West Branch extended their lead in the third inning when Josie Milliken's two-run double to center field made it 6-0.
The Warriors put the game away with an explosive seventh inning, scoring five runs on six hits. The rally featured RBI contributions from Libbie Davis (groundout), Elly Biskup (single), Mati Hawk (single), and McKay (two-run single).
Tucker earned the win in the circle, working four innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Zoey Carreon provided effective relief, and McKay recorded the save. For Howland, Brooke Tatar took the loss, surrendering 12 runs on 17 hits across seven innings with three strikeouts and three walks.
The Warriors offense was led by McKay, who drove in three runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Hawk and Craven each collected three hits, while Sara Schmidt, Tucker, and Carly Loper contributed multiple hits as well. During the game, the Warriors also turned a big double play.
Despite the loss, Howland played error-free defense, with Tabitha Schlatt handling a team-high 11 chances in the field. Offensively, catcher Brianna Deeter led the Tigers with three RBIs on a 1-for-3 day, while leadoff hitter Madison Schmitz went 2-for-4.
