Beloit, OH -- A total team effort fueled the West Branch Lady Warriors to a commanding 13-3 victory over Columbiana on Monday at home, highlighted by a nine-run fourth inning that broke open a tight game.
West Branch jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first after capitalizing on a Columbiana error and a groundout by Josie Milliken. In the third, Klary McKay added another run with an RBI groundout, giving the Lady Warriors a 3-0 lead.
Columbiana briefly tied it in the top of the fourth behind a two-run home run from Caitlynn Pleska and an RBI single by Anna Yonker, but West Branch responded immediately and emphatically.
The Lady Warriors sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning, with contributions up and down the lineup. Sara Schmidt, McKay, and Addi Craven each drove in runs with doubles, while Zoe Metzger added an RBI single. A fielder's choice by Libbie Davis and a pair of base hits brought in additional runs, including a two-run single from Ellie Tucker, who finished the day with four hits.
McKay earned the win in the circle, going five innings while allowing four hits and three runs—two of them earned. The right-hander struck out five and walked none. Columbiana's Addison Brode took the loss, giving up 12 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits across four innings.
Schmidt paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Tucker and McKay each drove in two runs, and West Branch turned a key double play on defense to help preserve the lead.
Pleska led Columbiana with two RBIs, and four different players recorded hits for the Clippers.
What's Next: West Branch improves to 7-2 with the win and will be back in action tomorrow at 5 PM against Marlington.
