The Warrior baseball team defeated the Field Falcons 8-5 on Saturday morning at the West Branch Baseball Field. The Warriors improve to 9-13 on the season while Field falls to 16-4.
West Branch got on the board early with three runs in the first inning highlighted by a two run suicide squeeze by
Grayden Grimm. The Warriors would tack on another in the second to build a 4-0 lead. The Falcons chipped away with two in the third and one in the fifth to cut the Warrior lead to one at 4-3. West Branch responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Field matched the two runs in the sixth to once again cut the lead to one run at 6-5, but West Branch put the game away with two more in the bottom half and held on the seventh for the victory.
The Warriors had 10 hits ont he day led by
Jeremiah Thomas and
Grady Close who each had two including doubles for each.
Drake Stryffeler had a triple and an RBI, while Grimm finished the day 1-3 with two RBI.
Gavyn Webb had a single, RBI, and scored two runs.
Nick Scofinsky,
Carson Wike, and
Evan Springer each singled for the winners.
On the mound
Evan Springer picked up the win. Springer pitched three innings allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts while walking five.
Carson Wike pitched two innings allowing three runs on one hit and four walks with a strikeout.
Gavyn Webb earned the same pitching the final two frames allowing one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.
