The Warrior baseball team and Canfield Cardinals battled in a tight game but the Cardinals were able to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded hit by pitch to defeat the Warriors 4-3 at Canfield High School. West Branch is 6-12 on the season.
The Warriors scored first after a
Jeremiah Thomas infield single to lead off the game. Thomas moved to third on an error and scored on a
Drake Stryffeler ground out. Canfield would score one run in the third and two unearned runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. West Branch would answer and tie the game at three in the top of the fifth. Once again Thomas led off the inning with a single followed by walks to
Grady Close and Stryffeler. Thomas and Close would score on ground outs by
Gavyn Webb and
Nick Scofinsky to even the score.
Neither team could mount much of an offense in the sixth inning, but Canfield was able to scratch two singles and an intentional walk in the bottom of the seventh to load the bases and win the game on a hit by pitch.
Evan Springer pitched five strong innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on six hits. Springer walked three and struck out three.
Next up:Â The Warriors will travel to Cene Park on Wednesday to take on Ursuline at 5 PM.
