The Warrior baseball team came up just short against Marlington on Tuesday falling to the Dukes 6-5 in EBC conference play. The Warriors are now 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in the EBC.
Marlington took an early 1-0 lead with a run scoring double in the third inning. The 1-0 score would remain until the fifth inning when the Dukes added another run. West Branch would respond and cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth. Marlington scored three in the frame, but West Branch once again responded adding three of its own to keep the deficit to one run. In the seventh, Marlington once again scored to take a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Warriors continued to battle scoring one run, but in the end West Branch left the tying and winning runs on base falling to the Dukes in a close game.
Jeremiah Thomas got the start and pitched five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with seven strikeouts and six walks.Â
Chase Gee pitched two innings of relief allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk and a strikeout.
At the plate,
Nick Scofinsky doubled and walked for West Branch while
Carter Thrasher had an RBI single with a walk and
Drake Stryffeler had a single and scored a run.Â
Gavyn Webb reached base twice via walk and scored two runs. Â
Next up: West Branch will travel to Marlington on Wednesday to close out the two game series. First pitch is 5 PM.
