The Warrior baseball team opened the 2026 campaign with a 6-2 victory over Ursuline at West Branch High School in a lightning shortened six inning game. The game was the season opener for both teams.
West Branch got on the board early with a run in the first thanks to a two out RBI single by
Drake Stryffeler scoring
Jeremiah Thomas who singled to open the game. In the second inning, the Warriors added two more runs on a Thomas hard ground ball to second that skipped off the second baseman. In the fourth inning, West Branch opened the game up with three runs.Â
Evan Springer led off the inning with a single. After a fielders choice,
Carson Wike doubled to bring home
Carter Thrasher.Â
Grady Close then tripled to deep right center to bring home Wike and scored on a hustle double by
Gavyn Webb to close out the inning.
Ursuline was able to scratch across two runs in the fifth inning but that was all.
Thomas picked up the win on the mound pitching four shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out six and walking three. Springer pitched the final two innings allowing two runs on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks.
In all, every batter in the lineup collected a hit with
Nick Scofinsky leading the way with two including a double. The Warriors finished the day with 11 hits, four doubles and a triple. Â
Next up: The Warriors return home on Wednesday to take on Girard weather permitting. Game time is scheduled for 5 PM.
