Louisville, OH-- Yesterday, the West Branch Lady Warrior softball team traveled to Louisville hoping to grab a big non-conference win over an old NBC rival. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned, and Louisville was able to come away with a big 10-2 win.
Louisville struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Addy Campbell launched a line-drive homer that just cleared the center field wall, giving the Leopards an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth,
Addi Craven started the inning with a single to left, then later stole second before a clutch single by
Zoe Metzger drove in Craven, evening the score at 1-1.
Errors and timely hitting plagued the Lady Warriors in the bottom of the fourth. The Leopards capitalized on the opportunities they were given, and once again, Campbell came up big. With Louisville already leading 6-1, she blasted a three-run homer, adding insurance and giving her team a commanding 9-1 lead to close the inning.
The hill was steep for West Branch to mount a comeback, but Ellie Tucker tried to spark some life with a leadoff double. Unfortunately, the Lady Warriors were only able to push across one more run on an RBI single from Klary McKay, scoring Tucker.
Louisville managed to tack on one more run to extend the lead further and went on to win 10-2. Ellie Tucker took the loss for West Branch, pitching three innings and allowing four hits and five runs, three of which were earned. Taylor Schneider earned the win for Louisville, going six innings, allowing seven hits, giving up just one run, and striking out seven.
