The Warriors used a team effort to defeat Columbiana 15-3 at Firestone Park on Friday in varsity baseball action. With the win the Warriors improve to 5-5 on the season.
The game was tight until the third inning when the Warriors broke open a 2-0 game, scoring four runs in the inning followed by five more in the fifth. After Columbiana was able to notch two in the fifth to keep the game going, the Warriors put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning.
Trevor Minich picked up the complete game win on the mound, giving up three runs (one earned) in six innings while striking out eight and walking one. Minich scattered six hits and took a perfect game into the fourth inning before a one out single broke up the perfect bid.
At the plate 11 different Warriors scored runs including three by
Jeremiah Thomas and two each by
Anthony Perry and
Evan Springer. Thomas finished the day 3-3 with a double and two walks. Perry also doubled for the winners. Picking up hits for West Branch were
Charlie Biskup,
Dominic Fotheringham,
Maddox Coleman,
Zack Pinkerton, and Springer.
Carson Wike reached base two times on walks.
