Beloit, OH -- The No.6 seeded West Branch boys soccer team began its quest for a district championship in dominant fashion, hosting No. 33 Woodridge in the sectional first round matchup. Coach Martucci's Warriors wasted no time, putting together a complete first half performance to end the game early with an 8-0 final. (Per OHSAA rules, if team leads by eight or more goals at halftime, the match is concluded.)
Junior Reed Martucci had himself a night, scoring four goals to lead the Warriors offense. Seniors Gavin Clemens and Kasen Weaver each found the back of the net, with Clemens also tallying a hat trick of assists. Junior Austin Pierce and sophomore Leonel Gonzalez added goals of their own, with Gonzalez also recording an assist. Mason Thomas and Cruz Leone chipped in assists as well, while the West Branch defense remained strong as goalkeeper Lance Myers needed to make just one save in the shutout effort.
However, the highlight of the night came from backup keeper Colt Williamson. With just five seconds left in the half, Woodridge was awarded a free kick that appeared destined for the back of the net until Williamson leapt to make an incredible save, preserving the shutout and ensuring the match ended at halftime.
