Canton, OH -- The WBXC High School Boys and Girls competed at the Malone Invitational NIGHT MEET last Saturday at Malone University. The 5K (3.1-mile) was challenging with its tight spaces, sharp curves, and mentally challenging loops. In addition, the WBXC HS teams chose to compete in the tougher division. They not only held their own as teams; they posted numerous lifetime PR's (personal records)!
Leading the way for the boys, finishing in the top 25% or higher of 197 boys were
senior Kyle Ormiston--12th place (16:45)*Medal-winner; Lifetime PR by 21 seconds
senior TJ Greenfield--38th place (17:47)*Lifetime PR by 35 seconds
sophomore Logan Williams--45th place (17:55)*Lifetime PR by 3 seconds
junior Jake Blinn--47th place (17:57)*Lifetime PR by 1:05
senior Colton Cantwell--48th place (17:59)
Several other WBXC HS Boys raced extremely well, posting lifetime PR's! Junior
Sevin Woods (18:17) dropped an amazing 47 seconds off his previous lifetime best! Senior
Bennett Biggs (18:45) had a terrific race, posting a lifetime PR by a whopping 1:15!
Freshman
Jace Bowlin (20:24) also had a stellar race, dropping a massive 1:02 from his lifetime PR! Senior
Garrett Felgar (21:03) and junior
Aidan Stuchell (21:44) also ran their personal bests by an impressive 43 seconds and 29 seconds, respectively!
As a team, the WBXC HS Boys finished 7th of 16 schools in a very competitive field.
On the girls' side, finishing in the top 26% or higher of 146 girls were
freshman Tenley Stitle--20th place (20:32)*Medal-winner; Lifetime PR by 5 seconds
sophomore Rachel Teague--39th place (21:54)*Lifetime PR by 22 seconds
Like the boys, numerous WBXC HS Girls raced extremely well, crushing their personal best times! Sophomore Kelly Ewing (22:06) dropped 34 seconds! Three freshmen--Ellie Bickle (22:16), Izzy Cantwell (24:07), and Kennedy Fritz (24:26)--dropped 37, 49, and 40 seconds, respectively!
Sophomore Luna Woolf (24:45) also set a new lifetime PR, dropping 43 seconds off her previous personal best!
Senior Sonja Sanor (25:01) chimed in, posting a season PR after being out due to injury.
The girls finished 7th of 12 schools--again, in a very competitive field.

The WBXC HS Boys and Girls have a quick turn-around this week, as they travel to Austintown Township Park on Wednesday, 9/30, to compete in the Mahoning County Championships!
Like their high school counterparts, the WBXC Middle School Boys and Girls competed at Malone University last Saturday. They faced crowded, competitive fields for their 2-mile course that, like the HS course, featured tight spaces, sharp curves, and mentally challenging loops. The MS runners rose to the occasion and set an impressive number of lifetime PR's!
Leading the way for the boys, finishing in the top 28% or higher of 217 boys, were
7th grader Sawyer Vavrock--30th place (12:31)
8th grader Wyatt Turman--61st place (13:17)*Season PR
8th grader Liam Wilson (13:46) beat his lifetime PR by 1 second. 7th graders Zen Woolf (14:17) and Kason Coffee (14:30) each dropped 33 seconds from their previous personal bests, while 8th grader Case Black (14:45) cut 40 seconds off his!
The WBXC MS Boys had a solid night as a team, finishing 11th of 18 schools.
