The JV baseball team scored four runs in the seventh and put the game away with three in the eight to defeat Marlington 14-11 Monday afternoon in Alliance. The Warriors are now 6-10 on the season and finish 5-5 in the EBC.
West Branch took a 6-4 lead in the fifth inning, but the Dukes responded with six runs in the bottom half to take a 10-6 lead. West Branch scored one run in the sixth to cut the deficit to three and scored four in the seventh inning to take an 11-10 lead. Marlington answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game and send it into extras. The Warriors scored three in the top of the 8th and held on in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
The Warriors collected 12 hits on the day and walked 14 times. John Bardo led the way with three hits and three runs scored. Connor Blile, Truss Milliken, and Austin Close each had two hits. Justin Dickey, Logan Down, and Brock Francis had one hit. Close and Dickey each doubled. Jackson Benner and Jake Hardy reached base twice via walk.
John Bardo picked up the win on the mound. Bardo pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing one hit and zero runs.
Next up: The Warriors will face Canfield at home on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is 5 PM.
