The Warrior basketball team put up a valiant effort tonight against the #4 seed Glenville Tarblooders, but eventually came up short falling to Glenville 60-45 in the OHSAA District Championship game on Friday night at Tuslaw High School. West Branch closes its season with a 16-9 record.
The two teams ramped up the defense early playing a tight first quarter but three quick baskets by Glenville at the end of the first gave them a slight 15-10 lead. In the second quarter, Glenville was able to extend its lead to 30-22, but the Warriors fought back in the third closing to within four during the frame. Glenville's lead was six after three, but a quick three to open the fourth followed by two buckets off turnovers gave the Tarblooders a 13 point lead that was too hard to come back from.
The Warriors, led by seniors
Jeremiah Thomas,
Gavin Gregory,
Kasen Weaver,
Zach Coffee, and
Chase Gee, played with passion and energy all season and fought until the end against a very good Tarblooder team. Gregory led the team on the scoreboard tonight finishing with 18 points including a three pointer. Gregory, who was 7-8 from the free throw line, also led the team with eight boards. Thomas also finished in double digits with 10 points to close out his stellar career.
Kasen Weaver knocked down a triple and ended the night with eight points and three assists.
Landon Coffee added six points and three rebounds while his brother Zach had five rebounds.
Congratulations to the Warriors on another stellar season and to the seniors on their great careers!
