West Branch used two late baskets to hold off East for a 46-38 victory over the Golden Bears in Youngstown Tuesday night. The Warriors improve to 10-6 on the season.
The Warriors and Golden Bears battled throughout with neither team able to take more than a few point advantage without the other answering. East held a 12-10 advantage after one, the teams were tied at 20 at the break, and West Branch held a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth. The Warriors outscored East 15-8 to finally pull away in the final meeting between these two teams as next year East is merging with Chaney to become the Youngstown Defenders.
Once again the Warriors were led by the inside and out tandem of
Gavin Gregory and
Jeremiah Thomas. Gregory finished with a game high 19 points while Thomas was close behind with 18 points including three from behind the arc.
Landon Coffee finished the night with three points while
Grady Hirst,
Zach Coffee, and
Kasen Weaver each had a bucket.
Next up: The Warriors will host the Salem Quakers on Friday night for West Branch's Winter Homecoming. The crowing of the Queen will take place between the JV and varsity games.
