The West Branch Warrior basketball team defeated Canton South 44-38 Friday night at the West Branch Fieldhouse to earn a Sectional championship and move on to the OHSAA District Semifinals on Tuesday night.
The Warriors knew it was going to be a tough game despite Canton South being the #21 seed as West Branch narrowly defeated the Wildcats a month ago 40-36.
This game was another tough defensive game, but West Branch was able to control the scoreboard most of the game. After falling behind 7-6 midway through the first quarter, the Warriors used an 8-0 run to take a 14-7 lead after one. West Branch was able to hold the seven point lead into the break leading 25-18. In the second half West Branch was able to build an 11 point lead, but Canton South score on four straight possessions including three 3's to cut the West Branch lead to four. The Warriors would not give in and overcame the Wildcats for the six point victory.
Leading the Warriors tonight was
Jeremiah Thomas with 17 points. Thomas hit one three on the day.Â
Gavin Gregory finished his night with 10 points while
Landon Coffee added six points.Â
Kasen Weaver knocked down a triple as part of his five point night while
