The varsity boys basketball team grinded out a 43-39 victory over South Range on Saturday night to close out the regular season for both squads. With the win the Warriors are now 14-8 on the season while the Raiders are 13-9.
The two teams battled throughout with neither team able to gain much of an edge throughout. West Branch held a slim three point lead at the end of the first and a two point lead at halftime. South Range frustrated the Warrior offense in the third quarter holding West Branch to just six points as the Raiders took a 34-31 lead heading into the final frame. In the fourth quarter
Jeremiah Thomas would hit three big shots along with a
Zach Coffee and
Kasen Weaver each with buckets to give the Warriors the advantage and two late
Gavin Gregory free throws iced the game for the Warriors.
Thomas led the team on the score sheet with 13 points and two assists.
Grady Hirst had 12 first half points including a triple along with six rebounds while Gregory finished in double digits with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Landon Coffee added four points for the winners.
Next up: The Warriors return home to take on Canton South Friday, February 27th at 7 PM in an OHSAA Sectional Final. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased both online or at the gate with cash.
