East Liverpool, OH -- Despite the final score, West Branch played Beaver Local much closer than the 4-1 result suggests.
Beaver Local took all three singles matches, but several went to competitive sets. Cailyn Brink fell (0-6, 0-6) at first singles and Audrey Miner lost (1-6, 1-6) at second singles. Abigail Carver grabbed West Branch's only win at third singles, rallying to beat Elayna Baumgarner (3-6, 6-3, 11-9).
The doubles matches told the real story of how tight this match was. Leah Irey and Addison Woolcock battled hard before losing (5-7, 3-6) at first doubles. The closest match came at second doubles where Landry Simon and Ava Cope nearly pulled off the upset, falling just short in a heartbreaking (7-5, 4-6, 8-10) decision.
That second doubles match especially showed how evenly matched these teams were - one or two points the other way and it's a completely different result.
What's Next: West Branch will take on Alliance at Mount Union Wednesday at 4:00.
