Beloit, OH -- The West Branch Lady Warriors scored five runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat the Ursuline Irish 9-2 on Tuesday at West Branch High School.
Mati Hawk hit a sacrifice fly to score one run, an error brought in three more, and
Carly Loper singled to drive in another run.
Ursuline got on the board in the top of the first inning when Katie Koulianos singled to center field, bringing in one run.
The Lady Warriors added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Zoe Metzgar hit a sacrifice fly, Libbie Davis singled, and another Ursuline error allowed a run to score.
Klary McKay earned the win for West Branch, allowing five hits and two runs over six innings. She struck out five and walked none. Bella Zamaria took the loss for Ursuline, going six innings and giving up nine runs (three earned) on 10 hits. She struck out three and walked two. Ellie Tucker pitched one inning of scoreless relief for the Lady Warriors, allowing no hits, striking out three, and walking one.
West Branch racked up 10 hits in the game. Josie Milliken, Sara Schmidt, and Addi Craven each had two hits. Metzgar, Hawk, Craven, and Loper each drove in one run. The Lady Warriors were aggressive on the base paths, stealing four bases and committing no errors in the field. Metzgar had the most chances in the field, with 10.
Koulianos led Ursuline with one RBI, going 2-for-3 and she was joined by Brooke O'Palick, who also had two hits.
What's Next: West Branch will head to Howland on Thursday, with the game set to begin at 5:00 PM.
