Salem, OH -- The West Branch boys varsity basketball team entered their matchup against Salem looking to complete the season series sweep. After a victory in Beloit earlier in the season, they were determined to do it again in Salem.
As expected from two rival teams, the game was intense, fast-paced, and physical. Early in the first quarter, Gavin Gregory electrified the crowd with a monstrous dunk over Salem's Evan Jones, but Salem's Deontay Steele kept them in it by hitting three first-quarter threes. The Warriors led 14-12 after the first quarter.
Gregory continued his strong performance in the second quarter, while the West Branch defense locked down Salem, holding them to just seven points. The Warriors led 26-19 at halftime, but with the score still close, Coach Loudon's team knew they had to stay focused coming out of the break.
West Branch did just that in the third, getting to the free-throw line and converting five of seven attempts. Joey Jackson also knocked down a big three to stretch the lead to 41-28. In the final frame, the defense remained solid, and the offense did enough to keep the game out of Salem's reach. The Warriors cruised to a 51-36 victory, completing the season sweep.
