The Lady Warriors traveled to Akron North High School on Saturday to take on the Perry Pirates in an OHSAA District Championship game. The game featured tough defense as both teams knew the stakes, but in the end Perry's size was a little too much for the Warriors as West Branch fell 38-28. West Branch finishes its season at 22-3.
Early in the game neither team could get much offense going, which was the theme throughout the night. Perry jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but West Branch responded by scoring the next five points and the teams ended the first period knotted up at 5 apiece. In the second quarter, the Pirates held West Branch to just two points, and a banked in three at the buzzer extended the Pirate lead to 15-7 at the break.
In the second half, Perry continued the strong play in the paint and extended its lead to 27-16. The Warriors would not going down without a fight though. Trailing 30-20 with 5:13 to play, the Warriors pressure got to the Pirates and West Branch was able to get two quick steals and convert them into two quick buckets trimming the lead to six with just under four minutes to play. That was as close as the Warriors were able to get, as Perry was strong from the foul line late in the game eventually sealing the game.
Tallie Muniz led the team on the scoresheet with seven points.
Audrey Eaton and
Ellie Tucker added six points apiece, while
Mati Hawk and
Carter Shepherd each had three.
Presley Egli finished with two points and
Hallie Vie Burton had one.
It was another banner year for the Lady Warriors as they finished a perfect 10-0 in the EBC and won back to back EBC Championships. Seniors
Mati Hawk,
Carter Shepherd, and
Presley Egli played key roles in both championships and consecutive District Final appearances. Congratulations to our seniors and the entire team on a great season!
