West Branch’s Upset Effort Comes Up Short Against Canfield

The West Branch boys basketball team was looking to snap a three-game skid and pull off an upset against the 9-1 Canfield Cardinals on the road.

The Warriors got off to a strong start, jumping out to an early lead with fast, physical play. However, Canfield's size advantage, coupled with the absence of Gavin Gregory due to injury, began to show. Despite this, West Branch trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter. That momentum carried into the second, as they withstood Canfield's pressure and length. A reverse layup by Cooper Anderson at the buzzer brought the Warriors within two at halftime, 25-23.

As in previous games, the third quarter proved challenging for West Branch. Fatigue started to set in, and Canfield outscored them 16-9 to take a 41-32 lead heading into the final period. The Warriors continued to fight until the last buzzer, but despite their efforts, they fell 50-41.
