The Warriors and Dukes met on a cool Thursday afternoon at West Branch High School in what turned into an EBC Tennis Championship as both squads came into the match with perfect 4-0 records. Due to a cancellation earlier in the season, and with the season winding down, the two teams decided to play a doubleheader match to determine the EBC Champion.
Marlington was able to come away with two 3-2 victories on the day in a highly competitive match. The Warriors are now 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the EBC.
In the ffirst contest, the Dukes were able to outlast the Warriors in a match that came down to two third sets in both 2nd singles and 1st Doubles. Winning for the Warriors was Cameron McCartney at third singles and the 2nd doubles team of
Connor Loper and
Mason Cosma.
In the second match, Marlington was able to pull away as all matches went just two sets. Once again the third singles went to McCartney and the second doubles match went to Loper and Cosma.
In JV action
Everett Zippay and
Eli Tice won 6-2, 6-0 and
Colt Williamson and
Landon Hobbins won their match 6-0.
Next up: The Warriors will host Field High School on Monday at 5 PM.
