Youngstown, OH -- After opening the season 1-7, the Ursuline girls had completely turned things around, going 9-2 since and playing some of their best basketball of the year. On the other side, West Branch entered the contest at 17-3 and coming off a one-point victory over Howland just two days earlier, setting up a matchup between two teams playing strong basketball.
The Warriors wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early 10-point lead and never looking back. West Branch controlled the tempo and kept the talented Irish at bay throughout the night, earning a 55-40 road victory.
Freshman Madi Hoopes continued her strong season, finishing with a team-high 16 points. She used her size well inside and got to the free throw line 11 times, knocking down seven. Hoops also added a three-pointer in the win. The Warriors also got big efforts from seniors Tallie Muniz and Sammi Beatty. Muniz was solid on both ends of the floor and finished with 12 points. Beatty added 10 points, including two three-pointers, giving West Branch three players in double figures.
Hallie Vie Burton scored six points, and Alinee Bacconi added five of the bench in the win. Alli Kanagy and Audrey Eaton may not have filled up the scoring column, but both made important contributions in other areas throughout the game.
What's Next: With the win, the Lady Warriors improve to 18-3 and will close out the regular season Saturday at 12 p.m. vs Girard. The contest will be varsity only.
