West Branch goal keeper
Audrey Eaton came up with two massive saves off of an Avonworth penalty kick to help lead the Warriors to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Antelopes on a soggy Monday evening at the West Branch Soccer Complex. With the win the Warriors improve to 10-0-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, West Branch got on the board first when
Ellie Tucker converted a penalty kick to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. West Branch was awarded the penalty kick when
Elli Colian was fouled in the box driving toward the goal. Following the Warrior goal, Avonworth put pressure on West Branch and earned a penalty kick of its own after a handball in the box. Leading 1-0, it was up to Eaton to preserve the lead and she came up huge for her team. Eaton saved the initial Antelope kick, but the Avonworth player pounced on the rebound and attempted a second shot that was also saved by Eaton before the Warriors were able to clear the ball out of the box and out of trouble.
Colian would add a second goal for the Warriors later in the third, assisted by
Alinee Bacconi to give West Branch the cushion they would need for the victory.
Eaton earned her 9th shutout of the season and fifth in a row making six saves.
The JV squad played to a 0-0 tie as the two teams shortened the game due to weather. Addi Dudley made four saves for the Warriors.
Next up: West Branch will travel to Carrollton for an EBC matchup. The varsity will play at 6 PM followed by the JV teams.
