The Lady Warriors soccer team reached its second straight District Championship game with a 8-0 win over Woodridge on Tuesday at Clinton Heacock Stadium. West Branch is now 15-0-2. Last season the Warriors defeated Southeast to move on the the Regionals for the second time in school history. This season, the Warriors will take on Chagrin Falls on Saturday at 2 PM at Jefferson High School. Chagrin Falls defeated Champion 8-0 to reach the finals.
The girls controlled play for the entire game consistently keeping the ball in the Woodridge end and peppering its goalie with shots. The Warriors would take a 3-0 lead into halftime, but in the second half the team came out on fire, scoring five goals to end the game early with just under 15 minutes to play. In the tournament, when a team takes an eight goal advantage at halftime or anytime during the second half the game ends.
Scoring for the Warriors were
Alinee Bacconi and
Elli Colian who each had two goals. Also scoring were
Sammi Beatty,
Caidee Schroeder,
Allie Brammer, and
Cambrie Nezbeth. Picking up assists were Colian, Beatty, Schroeder, ans Lexi McFarland.
In goal,
Audrey Eaton had four saves for the shutout. The junior has now tied the school record for career shutouts. The team also broke the school record for most shutouts in a season with 13.
