Warriors Overpower Dukes 64-14

The Warrior football team overpowered Marlington Friday night with 36 first quarter points on its way to a 64-14 EBC victory.  The win ups the Warriors record to 7-0 and 2-0 in the EBC while Marlington falls to 1-6 and 0-2 in the EBC.

West Branch got on the board early as Joey Jackson took a quick screen from Jeremiah Thomas to the end zone from 54 yards out just 1:02 into the game.  Eliza Hirst's PAT gave the Warriors an early 7-0 lead.  The defense would get involved next.  After pinning Marlington inside the five yard line on the kickoff, Cam Summers would tackle the Dukes ballcarrier in the endzone on second down, resulting in a safety and two points for the Warriors.  After a long return by Boston Mulinix was called back due to a penalty on the ensuing free kick, the Warriors methodically worked their way down the field resulting in a one yard touchdown run by Thomas and the route was on.

Thomas would complete 10 of 13 passes on the day for 225 yards and four touchdowns.  Three of his touchdowns were to Jackson who caught three balls for 117 yards.  With his three receiving touchdowns, Jackson became the West Branch career leader for touchdown receptions with 35.  He passed Nick Wilson who previously held the record with 33.

Grady Hirst got extensive time at quarterback and finished 8-10 passing for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Anthony Perry and Cooper Anderson each caught four balls and a touchdown.  Drew Gaspar had three receptions for 21 yards and Gavin Gregory hauled in two passes for 14 yards.  Brock Woost and Jake Weingart also had receptions for the winners.

On the ground, Mulinix led the way with 12 carries for 85 yards and a score.  Thomas would carry the ball seven times for 56 yards and two scores.  Damon Edwards had seven carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Warriors forced three turnovers.  Charlie Biskup and Carson Graham each had interceptions while Cohen Campbell pounced on a fumble forced by Garin Harlan.  West Branch held the Dukes to just 22 yards rushing.

Next up for the Warriors will be a trip to Kerhes Stadium on the campus of the University of Mount Union to take on the Alliance Aviators in an EBC contest.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
