Beloit, OH -- Excellence has become a tradition for the West Branch girls basketball program. Last season, the Lady Warriors finished 22-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, while capturing another conference championship. The team made it to the district championship but fell just short, setting the stage for the 2025-26 season.
The Lady Warriors return a talented, experienced roster this season, led by five seniors: Tallie Muniz, Alli Kanagy, Hallie Vie Burton, Sammi Beatty, and Ciara Evans. Muniz had a standout year, earning first-team EBC, second-team Northeast Inland District, and special mention All-State honors. Kanagy brings energy and tough defense, Burton contributed 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season, and Beatty played the first half of last season before sitting out the second half due to her transfer, but she's back for a full campaign and ready to make a big impact. Evans will add depth to varsity team.
Juniors Audrey Eaton and Alinee Bacconi also return. Eaton averaged 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season, earning first-team EBC, Northeast Inland District first-team, and All-State honorable mention honors. Bacconi is expected to play a bigger role this season. Freshmen Madi Hoopes and Elli Colian are expected to make significant contributions as the Lady Warriors aim to continue their winning tradition.
West Branch will face a loaded schedule this season, featuring tough non-conference matchups along with their EBC games. The team opens the season this Saturday at Green, with tip-off at 12 p.m. New this year, Coach DeShields' squad will participate in the Canton Fieldhouse Shot Clock Invitational on Saturday, December 27, facing Shelby. The schedule also includes the Berlin, OH – Classic in the Country against Magnificat on Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m.
